3 Feb 2007 - *** Excellent New Reef Dived - More Info ***

We dived a New Site, well new to SQSAC anyway, a reef running from about 10m to 50m, lots of life

Stevie, Warren, Gavin, Graham
We dived a site known as 'St Catherines 3', it is about 600m along the track from our usual reef at St Catherines, parking is tight, but plenty room for 6-8 cars.

Access to the rocky beach is down a small path next to a clipped hedge, entry to the water is very easy, head out at 310/320 degrees down to alt least 15-20m turn right and after 3-4mins you will arrive at some large boulders, this reef extends down to 38m, where it is widest ,it is shallowest at about 15m where it is very narrow, if you dont head directly out on the compass bearing to a reasonable depth you will miss it, (we did on our second dive, but back tracked onto it), we only went to about 30m but it did look very good deeper down.Looking under the large boulders we found lots of shrimps , a large fish which we cant decide if is a young cod or a saithe, lots of Anenomes, Soft Corals, Sponges, Pipefish, Gobies and a solitary Nudibranch.

All I needed was a wreck and I would have been well happy....we did find a large Anchor of an odd design, probably left over from the Last War, when Loch Fyne was used to practice for the D-Day Landings

This is the best reef I have dived in Loch Fyne, covered in life, I have never seen so many Squat lobsters and small fish, vis was easily 10-12m+ and very light.

We will dive this reef again soon.....
