All you wanted to know about Nitrox but were frightened to ask!

There are no mysteries about Nitrox Diving, it is no more dangerous than Air Diving providing you follow these Basic Rules....and you must follow them. Dive Discipline and Planning now becomes essential. You have been warned..now read on!.

Always keep your PPO to 1.4, most Dive Computers are set at 1.4, but some like the Aladin Nitrox are set at 1.5 - so it will allow you to go deeper. be careful!

(again there is an anomolay here BSAC allow a PPO of 1.44 for 'No Stop Diving..more later)

Never exceed your MOD - Maximum Operating Depth, even if you see something a few metres below your MOD. Self Discipline, and remember everyone's Physiology is different, so CNS can set in shallower than you expect - Dive Conservatively.

Be Aware of CNS - Central Nervous System Toxicity, symptoms and if you feel any thing out of the ordinary, tell your Buddy and ascend as soon as possible, be prepared to 'Bail Out' to your pony, or your Buddy's AAS

Plan the Dive and Dive the Plan  I know its an old BSAC saying that you will be sick of hearing, but it is true, Nitrox and Trimix Diving demand discipline when planning and when diving, If you have 32% mix and plan for a Dive which scrubbed, the back-up Dive must be in the same depth or shallower.

Analyse your gases at the the point of mixing/purchase, dont trust anyone, do it yourself or watch it being done, if you arent happy with the mix be hard, tell them to do it again!

When Diving ( If you have no choice) with an Air Diver you both have to modify your Dive Plan, you have to Dive to the Air Divers Deco Plan, The Air Diver is limited to your MOD.

An Ocean Diver can dive Nitrox only on Air Tables or an Air Computer.

A Sports Diver can do Decompression Dives using Nitrox Tables or a Nitrox Computer.

Sports and Ocean Diver diving together MUST do the Dive on air tables.

So get out and use NITROX, I am not suggesting you use it every Dive, but for Dives where you want the extended Dive Times, reduced Decompression or safety that Nitrox gives you

use it, we are lucky that we can buy Nitrox on Tap at EDC, so go for it!
