Dive in with South Queensferry Sub Aqua Club - BSAC 1262

Oban Saturday 25 March 2006

A view of Puffin Divers at Gallanach, Oban - I didnt take this picture!
it was a nice day, almost sunny and really busy when i arrived at 9.30am to get the Boat ready to launch, Ally made his way down from Crinan and met me at about ten o'clock.
Flat Calm and sun trying to break through, it was 12 degrees and a nice day, Five minutes before I took this picture there were Divers and boats everywhere, then they all disappeared, Warren, Gavin and Ronnie arrived a bit late, so after a faff we launched the Rib and set off....
BEFORE
SS Breda built in 1921 in Holland and sunk by the Germans in 1940,
beached in Ardnamurchan Bay to save the ship, the weather wasnt kind and she slipped into deeper water, there she lay until 1961 when the Navy 'wire swept' her, to remove the masts and superstructure, she was then discovered by Sports Divers and is now owned by Puffin Divers
AFTER
at 13m to the Deck at the Bow and 20m at the stern, with the seabed 6-8m deeper she is a great dive for everyone, normally buoyed bow and stern she is easy to find and relatively unaffected by tidal currents.
lots to see and the holds still have shaving kits, rupees, birt of aircraft.
Can be silty and does get stirred up so be careful!
Ally '007' Macgregor comes in for a coffee and a heat while his cylinder fills.
Gavin and Warren examine the chart to discuss the next dive
We all get ready to set off, cylinders being changed - Wheres Gavin?
Aird Na Cuile, about a mile south of Puffin, in the Sound of Kerrera a nice wall that you can pick your dep[th on, the sounder showed depths of 70 metres 20m from the shore! we decided to drop in a bit shallower
and have a longer dive.
Gavin, Ronnie and Allys bubbles, Warren was using his Rebreather dso no bubbles, i could see them when they were at 10m.
Bored in the Boat - this is looking South out of the Sound of Kerrera with the bottom of mull to the right and Colonsay/Jura and the Garvellachs in the distance
