AIRD NA CUILE WALL, SOUND OF KERRERA, OBAN, ARGYLL N56: (OS NM 731 189) Aird Na Cuile is about 1 mile South of Puffin Divers at, Gallanach in the Sound of Kerrera and can only easily be accessed by boat.
Aird Na Cuile looking North Laying just to the south of Oban this site is around an exposed headland. Moderate currents make the dive suitable for intermediate divers. The wall sweeps away to the North eventually to 70 metres but at the South end where the rock meets the sand at around 22 metres you can find squat lobsters, scallops, wrasse blennies and gobies as well as a proliferation of sea urchins.
Looking North up the Sound, with the wall on the right The tide appears to flood South to North up the Sound of Kerrera, and ebb North to South, so depending on the state of tide keep the wall on your left or right. As there is a sheltered bay at each end of the wall it appears to be unaffected by most weather conditions. An SMB would be preferable, and a firm Dive Plan with good boat cover is essential.
