Dive in with South Queensferry Sub Aqua Club - BSAC 1262

SQSAC Malta 2004 page 2

Neil Young and Alan Low at one of the props on the ' Xlendi ' depth 35 metres.
This ferry used to link Gozo with Malta. In 1999 it was to be sunk as a new Dive Site, but after a few hiccups ended up sinking in 42 metres of water upside down. It is possible to enter the car deck area and swim the entire length of the vessel before exiting and swimming up onto the top of the wreck and exploring one of the two props situated at either end of the hull. This is a Deep Dive and again is a penetration dive into a wreck at 40 metres with only 2 or 3 exits, still a good dive, although 10 minutes and you have seen everything.
A 4.8 Inch Shell case on HMS Maori, as you can see lots of hands have been on this, it wobbles but cant be moved even with a big lever!

HMS Maori was bombed in 1942 in Valletta Harbour, a direct hit to the engine room killed one person. She was blocking the harbour so was towed around to Marsamxett Bay in Valletta, where she broke in two.She has sunk into the sand and only the Bridge to Bow survives.
The Guns were removed but the 'barbettes' can be entered and some nice swim throughs, depth is about 8-13 metres, a nice easy dive.
(and you can have a go at getting the shell cases out!)
A Nudibranch in 'the paddling pool' at 'Marfa Right' dive site, Cirkewwa
just as well this turned out ok as i ripped my new wetsuit taking the picture !
This is where the Ferry to Gozo runs from, there are several good dives here, Tugboat Rozi, The Madonna statue, and several good Reefs, with depths in excess of 30 metres.
An Octopus in the crack at 'Marfa Left' , Cirkewwa, depth here was over 30 metres excellent visibility and very close to the shore.
Scorpion Fish at Marfa, Cirkewwa.
Tubeworm on the Bridge on the 'Um El Faroud, I have to mention that Warren and Ian managed to miss this wreck, 10,000 tons and they
didnt get on it !, although Ian has been on it since, Warren missed a great dive!.
Red Starfish cant remember where, probably Marfa, Cirkewwa.
